In an era where information is as accessible as it is manipulable, the integrity of health discourse stands at a critical juncture. The Knowledge Centre Global Health (KCGH) is proud to announce a pivotal conference aimed at tackling one of the most pressing challenges of our times: Mis- and Disinformation in (Global) Health. Scheduled for November 27, 2024, in The Netherlands, this conference endeavours to bring together health professionals, policymakers, researchers, and other relevant stakeholders to illuminate and strategise against the rapid spread of health-related misinformation and disinformation.5 2

Relevance:

Addressing mis- and disinformation in global health is not just about correcting false information but about safeguarding health, fostering informed communities, and ensuring the credibility of health science. This conference is a step towards building a collective defence against the tide of misinformation and disinformation that threatens to undermine individual, public and global health efforts.

Goal of the conference:

Our objective is to empower (global) health professionals and policymakers with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to identify, understand, and combat misinformation and disinformation. By fostering a platform for dialogue and learning, we aim to enhance the resilience of our health systems and the public against misleading information that can compromise global health outcomes.

Expected audience:

We anticipate engaging participants from various sectors, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and NGOs, who play a critical role in shaping and disseminating health information across the globe.

Conference setup:

The conference is set up in a way to interdisciplinarily and interactively dive into four aspects of mis- & disinformation. Throughout several keynotes and panels, we aim to cover aspects from a diverse range of disciplines, as well as cultural backgrounds. This is vital in understanding that mis- and disinformation is different in different parts of the world.

  • Current Trends Emerging from Disinformation Research
  • Unmasking Disinformation in the Healthcare Sector, exploring the nuances of healthcare misinformation and its direct impact on public health.
  • Combating Disinformation: Regulatory and Policy Interventions, presenting a deep dive into how policy frameworks can be leveraged to mitigate disinformation risks.
  • Mapping Future Trajectories in Medical Disinformation, offering insights into emerging trends and preparing for current and future challenges in health communication.

Contribution to professional knowledge and skills:

Participants will leave the conference equipped with:

  • An understanding of the latest research and trends in health misinformation and disinformation.
  • Practical tools and strategies for identifying and addressing misinformation within their professional spheres.
  • Insights into the role of policy and regulatory interventions in combating disinformation.
  • An enhanced network of professionals and experts committed to upholding the integrity of global health information.

KCGH invites you to join us in this essential dialogue and to contribute to a unified front against mis- and disinformation in global health. Together, we can pave the way for a more informed and resilient global health community.
